Welcome from the Las Vegas chiropractors of Complete Injury Management. We hope you find the following information, Physiatry – What is it? Rehabilitative Therapy interesting. Our focus is to help patients who are in pain following any type of injury.

Many people have never heard of physiatry. Physiatry is a form of rehabilitative therapy that allows for an integrated approach to joint, muscle, bone and nerve injuries. Physiatrists, often known as rehabilitation specialists undergo specialized training in physical and medical disciplines.

What can I expect?

Typically, treatments using physiatry begin with the doctor diagnosing your injuries, then taking a detailed medical history followed by a thorough physical examination. Depending on the findings you may expect to undergo laboratory tests, MRI scans, x-rays, nerve conduction studies and psychological assessments.

Frequently, a surgeon or primary care doctor will recommend physiatry. Usually any treatment then prescribed, whether medication, whirlpool baths, exercise or physical therapy, is covered by insurance.

The greatest benefit of physiatry is that this medical discipline treats the entire patient and not just the symptoms. Sometimes their rehabilitation plan will be one that you can follow at home, other times you will need to make use of certain equipment and facilities.

Many conditions are treated by physiatrists including, sports injury, stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury, low back pain, fibromyalgia, and traumatic brain injury. The primary aim of physiatry is to enable the patient to function optimally within the limitations placed upon them by their condition or disease, and the optimization of their quality of life when they are unable to achieve full restoration.
